The thrilling extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.
