Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
